Wildfire Response

On May 29, 2025, due to the provincial wildfires, Premier Scott Moe, together with the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA), declared a provincial state of emergency. The declaration provided enhanced powers to the Minister and SPSA. While Saskatchewan does not take these powers lightly, they were deemed necessary to enhance public safety.

Currently, the state of emergency remains in effect until June 29, 2025, and may be extended if needed to respond to this unprecedented start to the wildfire season. Our government continues to prioritize a coordinated, compassionate response and provide increased supports for those affected.

To support evacuees, our government is immediately providing $15 million to the Canadian Red Cross. These funds will help the Red Cross work closely with the SPSA to deliver essential support to those who have been displaced.

Additionally, the Government of Canada has announced it will match every dollar donated to the Canadian Red Cross for wildfire disaster relief and recovery efforts in Saskatchewan. Donations can be made online at www.redcross.ca or by calling 1-800-418-1111.

Public Safety Minister Tim McLeod recently announced on June 7, 2025, increased financial assistance for those registered with the SPSA. Daily rates for the head of household have been raised to $40 (up from $20), and to $20 per additional household member (up from $10). This brings the maximum daily support to $200 per family.

While we hope to begin sending individuals and families back to their communities soon, we know that some will need to remain evacuated as cleanup efforts continue in affected areas. Safety remains our top priority, and our government is working closely with frontline crews and multiple agencies to address this as quickly as possible.

In further support of displaced residents, Premier Scott Moe recently announced an additional $500 in financial assistance for all residents over the age of 18 from communities that have been evacuated. This is in addition to the increased financial assistance previously announced and will be issued directly to affected communities as a government grant.

Our government recognizes the challenges facing families across Saskatchewan due to the ongoing wildfires. These financial supports are intended to help families throughout the evacuation period and as they return to their home communities.

Saskatchewanians seeking information or support can contact the SPSA at 1-800-667-9660. Support is provided through the SPSA, the Canadian Red Cross, or the community from which you have evacuated.

If you’re in a community supported by the Canadian Red Cross, please call 1-800-863-6582 between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. daily. If your community is supported through the SPSA’s Emergency and Community Support Program, register through the Saskatchewan Evacuation App, and call 1-855-559-5502 for assistance. Once registered, the SPSA will contact you with further details based on your family situation and needs.
